Chris Vasell
Don't go outside they are waiting for you
March 5April 9, 2005

Blum & Poe is pleased to announce Don’t go outside they're waiting for you, an exhibition of paintings and watercolors by Chicago-based artist Chris Vasell.

In his first solo-exhibition at Blum & Poe, the artist will present nine large-scale paintings and a group of watercolors on paper. The paintings in the show constitute the result of a two-year experimentation period during which Vasell acquired his idiosyncratic technique of layering multiple painterly surfaces onto his canvases. This distinct style stimulates a constant interplay between translucency and density and is echoed in the expressive nature of his work. His subject matter draws from an unabashed psychedelic and iconographic spiritualistic flow; an exuberance that remains attainable only through the formal organization of his media.

Chris Vasell lives and works in Chicago where he also attended The School of the Art Institute. Vasell has recently been included in the group exhibition Stalemate at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Don’t go outside they're waiting for you marks Chris Vasell’s first solo exhibition at Blum & Poe.
