FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Opening Reception: Thursday, September 4, 6-9 PM
Blum & Poe is pleased to announce the opening of our new location with an exhibition of new work by all gallery artists.
After nine years in Santa Monica, Blum & Poe has relocated to a newly designed 5,000 square foot building located at 2754 S. La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90034. For this occasion, the gallery commissioned celebrated architectural firm EscherGunewardena to design the space. Best know for their restoration of John Lautner’s Chemosphere and their work on the Jamie residence, the Los Angeles based team of Frank Escher and Ravi Gunewardena have been recognized both nationally and internationally for their keen ability to adapt and reinvent their thinking for the specific needs of each project. Most recently their work was included in the 2003 National Design Triennial, on view at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York.
The inaugural exhibition will celebrate this milestone in Blum & Poe's history with new work by Chiho Aoshima, Tatsurou Bashi, Jennifer Bornstein, Slater Bradley, Nigel Cooke, Björn Dahlem, Sam Durant, Anya Gallaccio, Mark Grotjahn, Shane Hassett, Julian Hoeber, Friedrich Kunath, Sharon Lockhart, Florian Maier-Aichen, Daniel Marlos, Dave Muller, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, Hirsch Perlman, Dirk Skreber, Chris Vasell, and Bruce Yonemoto.
The new gallery occupies a 5000 sq.ft. industrial warehouse, which is a simple, almost banal, rectangular brick building. The exhibition spaces, conceived as a series of “art containers,” are a freestanding composition of pristine white volumes floating within the large industrial space. Additionally, the space surrounding these volumes accommodates for public and private circulation and large art storage areas.
Blum & Poe is located at 2754 S. La Cienega Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90034. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM. If you have any questions, please contact Gabriel Ritter at 310 836 2062.
