Michael Reafsnyder

April 8 – May 3, 1997
Santa Monica

Opening reception: Saturday, April 12, 5–7pm

Opening April 8 - May 3, Blum & Poe will present a series of new paintings by Los Angeles-based artist Michael Reafsnyder.

Engaging themselves with the project of muddiness, the paintings become a site for a rethinking or a complication of the figure/ground equation. This complication involves the reassignment of drawing, linearity, from the descriptive role of forms in space to a project of unhinging forms from both the ground of the mud and the canvas. The paintings do not deal with muddiness as much as they deal with the undegradibilty of color.
