Bruce Yonemoto

The Time Machine

February 15 – March 17, 2001
Santa Monica

Opening reception: Thursday, February 15, 6–8pm

From February 15 through March 17, Blum & Poe is pleased to present 'The Time Machine,' a new film by Los Angeles based artist Bruce Yonemoto.

Based upon the 1960 film version of 'The Time Machine' directed by George Pal, Yonemoto's film is a mediation upon time as a visual entity. Using what are now considered archaic special effects devices, claymation and time-lapse photography, Yonemoto's seemingly simple film touches upon a wide range of issues: obsolescence, the real, the representation of life and death, and memory.

Yonemoto was recently the subject of a major survey exhibition (with his brother Norman) at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles and will have one-person shows in 2001 at the ICA Philadelphia and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City.
