Opening December 4 through January 4, 1997, Blum & Poe will present "From Close Range" by Nobuyoshi Araki.

"From Close Range" is one volume of a two volume book published in Japan in 1991 entitled, "Laments: Skyscapes/From Close Range". Completed after the death of his wife Yoko,  "Laments: Skyscapes/From Close Range" is a deeply personal series of photographs and crucial to any true understanding of Araki's work. After a long period of mourning, Araki began to record images of the sky and objects placed on his balcony. Although obviously saddened by her death, what is recorded is a painfully seductive series of images representing his desire to find the inherit beauty in the life surrounding him, as represented by things closest at hand.
