Steven Shearer

May 2 – June 7, 2003
Santa Monica

Opening reception: Friday, May 2, 6–8 pm

Blum & Poe is pleased to present a solo exhibition of Vancouver artist Steven Shearer.

The exhibition will consist of work in a variety of media including oil paintings, drawings, collage, inkjet prints, and silkscreens derived from the artist's growing archive of found images. The contents of this archive range from early 1970's low budget teen culture publications and hobby craft manuals to the endless and ephemeral daily posting of amateur photographic documentation on eBay.

Shearer's work is at once autobiographical and anthropological, mixing the debased and sometimes deviant mannerisms of adolescent cultural forms with the utopian aesthetics and desires of modernism.
