Remembering Agnès Varda

Agnès Varda
1928-2019

The Blum & Poe team celebrates the life of Agnès Varda, the self-described "old filmmaker and young visual artist," the grandmother of the French New Wave with a prolific career spanning over six decades. Her work explored moments immortalized, the mystery of continuity, and the ephemerality of life. With tremendous pride and respect, Blum & Poe was able to present three exhibitions with the artist, and we are forever grateful for those years of collaboration and will miss her dearly. With gratitude to her children who will champion her legacy, Rosalie Varda and Mathieu Demy.

As Olivier Renaud-Clément put it, who organized her first presentation at Blum & Poe New York, "What has struck me in meeting and working with Agnès is her vivacity and voracity for life and time – a notion fully explored in her films and a curiosity ever re-awoken."
